The Laptop maker have forgotten the Pro Users

After the launch of Window 8 on October 26, most of the brands have come out with the new convertible machine design with Ultrabook design and touchable screen.

Here are some of the products:
  • Asus announce its lineup of Window 8-based products. (e.g TAICHI, VivoBook, Transformer Book, ZENBOOK touch, VivoTab & All-in-One PC).
  • Dell New XPS 12 Convertible 12 Ultrabook.

All of these new products have been focused on portable and ultra slim design that come with a smaller screen size (e.g. 11 inch, 12 inch or 13 inch) and  lower spec (e.g. poor graphic display card) for users that used their laptop for web surfing, documenting, and media entertaining. The laptop makers have forgotten the pro users and gaming users that still looking for a portable and touchable screen laptop.

Window 8 is a completely redesign operating system that work well with a touchable screen. Therefore, it's no wrong for the market to demand for touchable machine. For example, touch interaction is really work well with graphic painting, multimedia editing or even gaming control.

It's really sad that non of a brand has come out with a higher spec portable machine with touchable screen. The pro users not even asking for high spec ultra slim machine or convertible machine.

The laptop maker should seriously consider about different demands in the market.

Apple Magic Mouse - How to use it properly ?

Magic mouse Multi-touch Area
Many people have complained about their Magic mouse is not perform like what they have expect it to. Some of the users even complaint they always have wrong input or should I say is the input that they not really wished to.

From the experiment and observation to several users, we actually found the reason why people are complaining about Magic mouse. Magic mouse is design with multi-touch input surface from the front until somewhere around the apple logo. Therefore if we hold Magic mouse like the way we hold our classic mouse it might cause some wrong input.

If we hold Magic mouse like how we hold our classic mouse, our palm will exactly place at top of the multi-touch surface, so when we move the Magic mouse around some wrong input might be inserted.

In conclusion, to use a Magic mouse with great feeling, users just have to correct the way they hold their Magic mouse. For example, look at the picture below.

This is the correct way of holding a Magic mouse.

Tips: If you are using a Magic mouse, you can try to imagine, you are like holding a movable touch pad. A touch pad that is in well design to fit your hand for you to point and click through it.

Youtube adds "Play in 3D" video option

Good news to youtube users. Now you have the options to watch any 1080p video in 3D. YouTube has come out with a tool to enable users automatically convert a short video into 3D.

In September 2011, YouTube started allowing people to turn 2D videos into 3D, however this was in beta phase and only available to YouTube creators.

The Google is now expanding the beta to all YouTube users includes both creators and viewers. Start from now Youtube users are allow to convert any short-form videos uploaded in 1080p to 3Dwith the provided option.

Therefore, YouTube users no longer need to wait for creators to upload 3D videos, as users are now able to convert any HD films themselves if they so wish.

The 3D Viewing feature is available in the Quality Settings bar on the YouTube player. Users just need 3D glasses to watch the converted videos.

Youtube said that the technology works by using a combination of video characteristics, such as colour, spatial layout and motion, to estimate a "depth map" for each frame of a monoscopic video sequence.

YouTube said that it has learned from the growing number of videos shot in true or 'native' 3D, posted on YouTube, by gauging the video depth characters and applying these in depth estimations for 1080p videos. The generated depth map and original monoscopic frame then creates the stereo left-right image pairing that the display system needs to show the video as 3D.

Some things you should know before installing Windows 8 Consumer Preview

With Windows 8, the whole experience of Windows has been reimagined. It’s designed to work on a wide range of devices, from touch-enabled tablets, to laptops, to desktops and all-in-ones. Microsoft’s designed Windows 8 to give you instant access to your apps, your files, and the information you care about most so you can spend less time navigating and more time doing what you actually want to do. You can move between Windows 8 PCs easily and access your files and settings from virtually anywhere. Microsoft’s made touch a first-class experience and navigating with a mouse and keyboard fast and fluid. And just like Windows 7, reliability and security features are built in. It’s the best of Windows 7, made even better.

Some things you should know before installing Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Before you start the download, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, this is a prerelease operating system

The Windows 8 Consumer Preview is just that: a preview of what’s to come. It represents a work in progress, and some things will change before the final release. This means you’ll encounter some hiccups and bugs. One of the great things about widely releasing a preview like this is that it gives Microsoft a chance to get a lot of feedback through telemetry, forums, and blog posts on where Microsoft can smooth out some of the rough edges.

Second, you should be pretty comfortable with new technology

If you’re used to running prerelease (beta) software, you’re OK with a little troubleshooting, and you don’t mind doing a few technical tasks here and there, then you’ll probably be OK giving the Windows 8 Consumer Preview a spin. If a list of hardware specs is a little overwhelming for you, or you’re not sure what you’d do if something unexpected happened, this might not be the time to dive in.

As with pre-release software in general, there won’t be official support for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, but if you have problems, please share them with Microsoft. You can post a detailed explanation of any issues you run into at the Windows 8 Consumer Preview forum. Microsoft’ll be able to look at your input, and you might find some help from other members of the community who have seen the same issues you’ve found. In addition, the Windows 8 Consumer Preview FAQ on the Windows website has information that could help you out and make the Windows 8 experience more productive and enjoyable.

And finally, you’ll need the right hardware

Windows 8 Consumer Preview should run on the same hardware that powers Windows 7 today. In general, you can expect Windows 8 Consumer Preview to run on a PC with the following:
  • 1 GHz or faster processor
  • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
  • 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolutions
However, there are some additional requirements to take into consideration in order to use certain features in Windows 8. In order to use the Snap feature, you will need a PC with a 1366x768 resolution or higher. If you want to use touch, you’ll need a multitouch-capable laptop, tablet, or display. Windows 8 supports up to five simultaneous touch points, so if your hardware doesn’t, you may find typing on the onscreen keyboard and using certain controls more of a challenge. You’ll also need an internet connection to try out the Windows Store, to download and install apps, and to take your settings and files with you from one Windows 8 PC to another.

For some more information on hardware requirements, check out this post on the Building Windows 8 blog. Also, the Windows Hardware Team tells me they plan on updating the Microsoft Touch Mouse for Windows 8. You can read their announcement and more info on using Microsoft Hardware mice and keyboards with Windows 8 in this blog post.

If you’ve read all of that, and you’re ready to give it a try, then let’s go!

These are the tips from Microsoft after Circle group installed Window 8.

Nokia Drive offline access

You’re driving on an unknown road and you suddenly wonder whether you’re still respecting the speed limits. Or the road ahead is almost empty and you instinctively speed up a bit. Do any of these examples sound familiar? The new Nokia Drive can help you in those circumstances.

You can drive more safely because speed limits and relevant notifications are clearly visible in the app dashboard. Warnings are fully customizable with audio alerts and specific triggers with Nokia Drive.

In addition, Nokia introduced your most requested feature in this update: a complete offline experience. When you open Nokia Drive, under Settings > Manage maps you can download country maps for offline access. You can now rely on Nokia Drive in areas with poor network coverage or cut your data costs when you’re visiting foreign countries.

Compare with Android Google map:
Engadget clung tightly to Android when it came time to navigate on the move. Why? Google Maps Navigation, that's why.
Nokia and Windows Phone have been building a formidable opponent, and today's updates to Nokia's trifecta of navigational tools might be just the thing Google loyalists needed to cast a glance in Microsoft's direction.

Own a Nokia or Andriod phone for navigating?
